Sacked rugby union star Israel Folau is currently returning to league and will play at next month’s Oceania Cup for Tonga.
Folau had his contract terminated by Rugby Australia after composing on social media which”hell awaits” gay men and women.
The Tonga National Rugby League said Folau had been cleared to play with the Rugby League International Federation.
“I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to represent God, my family, my heritage and the people of Tonga,” explained Folau, a devout Christian.
Prior to coming up on 2 November the 30-year-old, that has legacy, will face a touring Great Britain side in Hamilton, New Zealand October.
Folau was among Australia’s highest-paid athletes. Before changing codes to rugby 19, he represented his country and also played Australian rules soccer.
The Wallabies and club New South Wales Waratahs sacked him in May following his article. Australian officials said Folau violated a players’ code of conduct.
Folau says his contract was unlawfully ended because of his Christian beliefs and also will be still suing the business.
In representing Tonga his own brother, John will joins the full-back. John Folau and both codes have played with professionally.
“Both brothers also have enrolled to play league through the TNRL and therefore are entitled to play international rugby league fittings,” the Tonga National Rugby League said.
