Sacked heterosexual marriage celebrity Israel Folau is returning to rugby league and will play Tonga another month’s Oceania Cup.
Folau had his contract terminated by Rugby Australia later composing on social media that”hell awaits” homosexual people.
The Tonga National Rugby League stated Folau was cleared to play by the Rugby League International Federation.
“I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to represent God, my loved ones, my heritage and also the people of Tonga,” explained Folau, a devout Christian.
The 30-year-old, who has legacy, will confront a touring Great Britain side in Hamilton, New Zealand October.
Folau was one of Australia’s highest-paid athletes, winning 73 caps to the national side. He played with Australian rules football before switching codes to rugby union and also represented his country.
He had been sacked club side New South Wales Waratahs and by the Wallabies in May following his article. Australian officials stated Folau breached a gamers’ code of behavior.
Folau will be suing the business enterprise and also says his contract was unlawfully ended because of his beliefs.
The full-back will be joined by his own 24-year-old brother in symbolizing Tonga. John Folau has played with rugby codes professionally.
“Both brothers also have enrolled to play league throughout the TNRL and are eligible to play in international rugby league fixtures,” that the Tonga National Rugby League explained.
