Sacked heterosexual marriage celebrity Israel Folau is returning to rugby league and will play another month’s Oceania Cup for Tonga.
Folau had his contract terminated by Rugby Australia later writing on social media which”hell expects” homosexual individuals.
The Tonga National Rugby League stated Folau was cleared to play with the Rugby League International Federation.
“I’m so grateful to have the chance to reflect God, my family, my heritage and the people of Tonga,” explained Folau, a devout Christian.
Before coming up from Australia in Auckland on 2 the 30-year-old, that has Tongan heritage, will face a touring Great Britain side in Hamilton, New Zealand, on 26 October.
Folau was among Australia’s highest-paid athletes. He represented his nation league and played with Australian rules football before changing codes.
The Wallabies and club New South Wales Waratahs sacked him in May after his article. Australian officials stated Folau violated a players’ code of conduct.
Folau claims that his contract has been unlawfully ended because of his Christian beliefs and also will be still suing the business.
In symbolizing Tonga, the full-back will be joined by his 24-year-old brother, John. John Folau and codes have also played professionally.
“Both brothers also have registered to play league throughout the TNRL and are eligible to play international rugby league fixtures,” the Tonga National Rugby League said.
